I decided to buy this game because I like the movie, and I think Will Ferrell is extremely funny. The game has two modes, story-line & mini-games. The story-line mode includes cut-scene photos from the movie before each level, and contains decent music. You play Buddy (Will-The Elf) trying to make is to New York City. Your main objective is to make is through each level by jumping either the correct distance or at the correct time. I'm on level 5, and I still only have the ability to jump. I would have liked the game play better if Will had other abilities than jumping (like maybe throwing snowballs at the Polar Bears). During each level there are several checkpoints. If you make it to a checkpoint, then "die" past the checkpoint, you are taken back to the checkpoint, and not to be start of the level. However, the checkpoints seemed to be too randomly placed on some levels. After completing each level, you are given a code, to enter to reach the next level. This means if you have reached level 3 and get your level 3 code, and turn the Game Boy off, you can input the code the next time you turn it on, and you will be able to start at level 3. I was afraid that this gamegame play would be a little childish. Although game play is basic, with only jumping, each level gets progressively more difficult. Mini-Games, these are fun, but very basic. These are good when you only have a little bit of time to play (not enough time to make it through a level of story-mode). This is a good gameboy advance game for kids. A side scroller, Super Mario Brothers type of game. Overall an average game, I'd suggest Lego Star Wars or cars for a more rewarding experience.
Fun game. Doesn't have any other characters in the game besides "Elf". But it's time consuming and interesting if you have nothing else to do. What more can you ask for?
Great game at a great price. Really made my son's Christmas! He really enjoys this game! A great game from a funny movie.
